Health data privacy

Know what you approve, what you share, and where to change it.

Metric accesses Apple Health categories only after you approve them, and iOS lets you change or revoke those permissions by data type. Metric uses the categories you select for dashboards and insights; account, social, and AI features have separate data flows. Review the current privacy policy for collection, processing, storage, and deletion details.

  • Permission by Health category
  • Access can be changed in iOS
  • Separate social and AI choices

Health categories remain distinct, just like the permissions that control them.

There is no single “all health data” switch.

HealthKit uses fine-grained permissions. You choose which categories an app can read or write, and you can revisit those choices in the Health app or iOS Settings. If access or history is limited, Metric may show less data.

HealthKit permission is only one boundary. Information you type into Metric, account and social features, shared workouts, and AI-assisted features may use services beyond the local Health store. The privacy policy is the source for those current practices.

A Health permission is separate from what you choose to post or share socially.

Every summary should lead back to the signal, date range, or source that shaped it.

Apple Health controls

Approve categories individually.

HealthKit asks for each supported type rather than giving an app silent access to the entire Health store.

Change your mind

Review or revoke access in iOS.

Open Health, choose your profile, then Apps or Devices to review the categories available to Metric. Apple may change labels or navigation between OS releases.

Separate sharing choices

Health access is not the same as social sharing.

A private Health category does not automatically become a public post. Treat profile visibility, live workout sharing, and every explicit share action as separate choices.

Three steps from data to a better question.

  1. Review permissions

In the Health app, open your profile and review Metric under Apps or Data Access & Devices.

  2. Limit what you do not need

Turn individual read or write categories on or off according to the features you want to use.

  3. Review feature-specific choices

Check profile privacy, social sharing, AI settings, account controls, and the current privacy policy separately.

Useful, with clear limits.

  • HealthKit permissions control access to Apple Health; they do not describe every data flow for information entered, uploaded, synced, posted, or sent through AI features.
  • Features that sync accounts, social content, or AI responses may involve network services beyond the device.
  • This page is a practical product overview, not the privacy policy or a legal rights notice.

A good fit if

  • You want to understand Apple Health permissions before connecting Metric.
  • You want different access choices for different Health categories.
  • You use social or AI features and want to treat them as separate decisions.

Probably not for you if

  • You expect every Metric feature to work with all Health permissions disabled.
  • You want an assurance that all optional account, social, and AI features are fully offline.
  • You need a legal interpretation of privacy rights in your jurisdiction.

The short version.

Can Metric see Apple Health data without permission?

No. HealthKit requires app access to be authorized by category. If a category is not available to Metric, the app may have no samples to display for it.

Where can I change Health permissions?

Use the Health app or iOS Settings to review app access. Apple’s current support guide shows the exact navigation for your OS version.

Does granting Health access make my data social?

No. Health access and social sharing are separate flows. Review profile visibility and each explicit sharing feature independently.
